Staffa National Nature Reserve (NTS)

West of Mull

This uninhabited island is famous for its distinctive six-sided columns of rock - formed when lava cooled many millions of years ago. Most spectacular is the cathedral like Fingal's Cave, immortalised by Mendelssohn in his celebrated Hebrides overture.During spring and summer the cliffs and grassy slopes provide nesting sites for various seabirds including guillemots, razorbills and puffins.
