RSPB Abernethy Forest National Nature Reserve

Forest Lodge, Nethybridge

The largest native Scots pinewood in Britain, the reserve also includes a river, lochs and moorland. This is the place to see crested tits, Scottish crossbills, capercaillie and red squirrels.Loch Garten, in the middle of the reserve, is famous for its ospreys. They nest nearby and can be clearly seen from the Osprey Centre. Live video pictures, relayed back to the centre, give a close-up view of action on the nest. Osprey Centre is open daily from 1st April to end August 10am to 6pm. Capercaillies can also be seen from the centre during their early morning spring lek Caper-watch is from 1st April to 20th May from 05.30am to 08.00am.There are various trails through the nearby woodland and many miles of tracks elsewhere. This nature reserve is an important area for wildlife.RSPB Scotland welcomes responsible access, in lines with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
