Tentsmuir Point National Nature Reserve

Tentsmuir Forest, By Tayport

The northern shore of Tentsmuir is one of the fastest growing parts of Scotland with the land moving out into the sea at a rate of 5 metres a year. Back from the sea, the damp hollows between the dunes have their special plants. Seaside centaury; northern marsh orchids and the pure white grass of Parnassus are some of the specialities. The estuary of the River Tay is excellent for eider ducks. In winter vast flocks feed on the mussel beds here. The nearby Abertay Sands are a haul out spot for up to 2,000 grey seals and several hundred common seals. Trails with interpretative panels. Leaflet available.
