Farne Isles National Nature Reserve (NT)

Seahouses

This group of some 20 islands just off the Northumberland coast offers one of the best wildlife spectacles in Britain. Visitors can land on two of the islands. Large numbers of puffins, guillemots, kittiwakes, arctic and sandwich terns breed here. Many of the birds are very confiding and pay little attention to visitors. The grey seal colony here is the largest on the East coast of England. On Inner Farne there is an information centre, nature trail, and chapel in memory of St. Cuthbert who died here in 687 AD.
