Noup Head Cliffs (RSPB)
Westray
These spectacular sandstone cliffs on the north-west coast of Westray hold Orkney's largest seabird colony. Each summer some 45,000 guillemots and 12,000 pairs of kittiwakes crowd on to the cliff ledges. Fulmars, razorbills, puffins and black guillemots also breed here. Gannets nested on the cliffs for the first time in 2003.
Along the cliffs there are colourful displays of thrift, sea campion, spring squill and the delicate white flowered grass of Parnassus.
