Fetlar (RSPB)
Baelans, Fetlar
This delightful island is full of birds in summer. Most of Britain’s red-necked phalaropes breed here. You can often see these fascinating waders at the edge of the Loch of Funzie or from the hide at the Mires of Funzie. Red-necked divers, golden plovers, whimbrels, arctic and great skuas also breed on the island. On Lamb Hoya to the south there are colonies of Manx shearwaters and storm petrels. Fetlar interpretive centre is a good source of local information.
Opening Times
Hide is open April to October. No access to the bird reserve April to August
