Loch of Kinnordy (RSPB)

Kirriemuir

With three hides and a boardwalk nature trail, this shallow loch offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Some 7,000 black-headed gulls nest here on the floating mats of vegetation.

The reserve is well known as one of the best places in Scotland to see the rare black-necked grebe. Great crested and little grebes also breed here, as do wigeons, gadwalls, shovelers, pochards and ruddy ducks. Ospreys visit regularly. In winter up to 5,000 greylag geese roost on the loch.
