Known as the ‘Iona of the East’ this beautiful 12th century abbey, on an island in the middle of the Firth of Forth is exceptionally well preserved. A ferry service to the island operates from South Queensferry.

Bass Rock

This guano spattered rock rising 107m out of the sea is a conspicuous feature of the East Lothian horizon. Once a state prison, it is now home to one of the world’s largest gannet colonies. There are regular boat trips round the Bass from North Berwick.
